Okay, remember that soulbonded dragons ficmeme that some of you insanely brilliant people threw around a couple of months ago? I'm... not ready for that one yet. BUT ALL THE SAME:

Name me a character/series/pairing and I will write a short fic in which they all have His Dark Material-style daemons.

Because we've ALL PLAYED THAT GAME. Don't lie. I totally saw the number of you that filled out the quiz on the Golden Compass site. For those of you who have NOT read the books, all you need to know about daemons is: "magical soulbound spirit animal".

“Daisuke,” intoned J, his normal rumble slightly wondering. “What is a daemon?”

Daisuke opened his eyes. “Ack,” he said, levering up on his elbows. “That’s a doozy of a question.”

Right up there with ‘Where do babies come from?” Thankfully J had yet to ask that one.

“A ‘doozy’?”

“Let’s stay on daemons,” Daisuke decided, right then. “It’s kinda simple. For a start, that’s one.”

Casielle lay as a great orange ooze by the window. Her body somehow pooled to the exact proportions of her square of light. “That is also resting,” she purred, “Do your own work, Daisuke. It would be an interesting change of pace.”

“Right, right.” Daisuke cracked his shoulder and sat up with a yawn. “Kyoko would be better at this, though. Where is Kyoko?”

“Vacation time,” Casielle answered before J. “Company paid.”

“Huh. Do I get that?”

“No. Your brother says you take enough of it on the job.”

“Dang. Uh. Sorry, J. Where were we?”

“Daisuke is not authorized vacation time,” said J.

“Back to daemons,” said Daisuke.
