Firstly,

Adopt one today!Adopt one today!Adopt one today!

Just getting that out of the way.

So, The Princess and the Frog has perhaps what is now my new favorite Disney Princess. For the simple fact that all I could think during this movie is finally, a princess who's a good role model for a modern girl. Her dream is owning her restaurant! Wishing on a star only gets you so far! Work hard, don't give up, but also know that even when you feel down and out the people who love you will be there for you! All your sacrifices DO mean something, in spite of how bad things might seem, and no matter how sometimes it seems like some people are just born luckier than you, even if it seems sometimes like you just weren't born with the chance, if you work hard it won't matter. It's something very very resonant especially in this time of recession. It hit a chord, I don't know.

Also the fact that this movie was just completely teeming with 20s music and 20s clothing and 20s dancing and... remember when I have a big hard-on for the 1920s aesthetic? I have a big hard-on for the 1920s aesthetic. In fact, I had this conversation with coworkers: "...what do you think of zoot suits." "... ... .... I think they're hot. ._."

(also picked up on the fact Mama Odie was Facilier's mother? "I'm royalty on my mother's side" and Odie is introduced AS THE VOODOO QUEEN OF THE BAYOU. Yeah.

Also, I was expecting Ray to be the stupid comic relief character.

And then he BROKE MY GODDAMN HEART.

This movie, guys. THIS MOVIE.

But zoot suits weren't until the late 30s! Why is everyone saying they're 20s!

I KNOW. I LOVE RAY SO MUCH. When he did that happy squeak, oh my god

IS THAT A FACT? Because it's interesting and I like that and completely did not pick up on it.

Re: first paragraph: omg yes! A few weeks ago, my psycholinguistics professor was talking about how one can generally predict the eventual downfall of civilizations by when the children's stories stop having motivational morals, right? Like, when they stop saying things like "you can do anything if you try" instead just leave off at "you can do anything," full stop. And he was all excited when we said we'd all read "the little engine that could" as kids, because that means we hadn't quite hit that point yet, although he thought we were probably close.

So when I saw this movie, I was like, x3 eeeeeeee yes ♥

Also, I totally didn't notice the Mama Odie-Facilier connection, that's... wow 8|

Hahahaha omg, I TOTALLY THOUGHT I was the only one ~theorizing~ Mama Odie was Facilier's mum or grandmum or something (tho' I'm not sure how well that jives with my conviction that Facilier is basically just a smooth-talking conman who got in too deep).

I'd be lying if I said "Almost There" wasn't on near-constant rotation on my iPod this week.
