Didn't get the laps of swimming in that I wanted to, due to it being a weekend and the pool being occupied by a great number of children, so instead I crossed the street and visited my grandparents, sat outside and watched the sound while talking with my grandfather. We both got a chuckle over two guys and a moterboat that they were fishing off of while still tied to the dock--or more correctly, while some poor bastard held onto the boat for dear life to make sure it didn't drift away. The fishing effort I suspect was somewhat hindered by the fact that one of them decided to jump IN. Guess he expected to catch something with his teeth.
My grandparents live on this big, old house. The kind that people would probably call haunted if it looked a little less lived in. Been going there as long as I can remember, even back when I lived in the city we'd take the train up on weekends to visit, and stayed there for the summer. I love it. Especially the tiny strip of sand that's their beach, wedged between two big fancy beach clubs and half occupied by a craggy grouping of stones I liked to call 'my rock bed' ( Not because of any geological knowledge or interest at the time, there's this one flat stretch that really LOOKS like a bed). I still like to climb all over it.
Then there're the thimbleberries. Which is actually the whole reason for this post. Thimbleberries are the best things ever. Especially when you pick 'em right off the bush, and my grandparents just have this HUGE amount of them right in the yard. I sometimes have to fight a one-headed Cerberus to get to them, but it's always worth it. You can pick masses and masses of the things, enough to fill three containers, and there'd still be more in the very back that you'd get scraped to hell trying to get at. And once, on a sappy notion, I picked bag full and tied it up with a ribbon to give to a girl I had a crush on. I went through with it, too. Totally dopey, wishy-washy thing to do, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Heheh.
There'll be more out by the time Kii visits. Should be fun.
