moonsheen: (j'accuse!)
So yesterday at work a woman gestures at me from one of the gallery benches. I am actually vaguely irked when people do this. Okay, sometimes they're just really tired and don't want to get up before knowing where to go next, but sometimes it comes off a lot like "You! Person who works here! Drop whatever you're doing over there and come over to CATER TO ME." ...guess how this one read.

The place was quiet at the time and uh, it's my job to cater to people, so I went over to see what she needed help with. She was a middle-aged woman, dressed pretty nicely. Her husband was looking at the Rembrandts on the other side of the gallery.

"Yes?"

The woman asks, with PERFECT CONFIDENCE, "Where are the Mona Lisas?"

It took me a second register that she wasn't actually asking that figuratively. "A-ah, excuse me?"

She stares at me for a second like I'd grown a second head. "Your Mona Lisas? Where are they?"

I. Um. Yeah.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] autophanous I kinda need this icon now: MY MONA LISAS. LET ME SHOW THEM TO YOU.
