“Now, I understand the point you’re trying to make,” Ukitake started. “And. All right, so suppose love is unconquerable—it probably won’t break your fall--”
“Nonsense!” cried his roommate, with a flourish.
“Or administer any sort of splints.”
“I will not be disheartened!” cried his roommate, throwing his arms wide.
Ukitake smiled so hard it hurt. “…or help you keep your balance if you move--”
His roommate, summarily, dropped like a stone.
“--a little too far to the left. Ah.” Ukitake dropped his hand and stared. After a moment he moved over to the side of the balcony. “….are you still conscious?”
“…and unconquered!” came the croak, up from the courtyard, hoarse but proud. “You see? Something DID break my fall!”
‘Something’ was small and decidedly squishy. It squirmed beneath him. It had a head, hands, and feet. Its books and a collection of strangely shaped stalks were scattered. “Yes, Kyouraku-sempai,” said the 4th year Aizen Sousuke, faintly. “…that would be me…”
