The first traveler bit down on the corner of his lip as he smiled. “You know, I don’t think…”
“S’okay, s’allright,” said the second, waving him off. A young man, he leaned over on the table, eyeing up the waitress hopefully. He propped his elbows up and clasped his hands. “Did you know I know the favorite lullaby of the crown prince of Bavaria? I could sing it for--”
The woman punched him
“…and then they do that sometimes,” he finished knowledgably, rocking back into his seat. He cradled the flare of red on his cheek. A dreamy gaze followed the woman as she left. “And then I know I'm worth the effort of four fingers curled.”
“Would you like something for…”
“I think I can take it.”
The first traveler shook his head. “Rinali is going to scold us--” and he stiffened, all at once. “—ah. But anyway, we should probably go now.”
His companion frowned. “Ja?”
A thick monocle, ridged like a gear, turned twice in front of the boy’s round, scarred face. “Yes. A block over. Near the docks. There is someone we should likely meet.”
“You make us popular, don’tcha Allen.”
Allen Walker’s darkened eye rolled towards him, under the whirr. "...and we should leave that woman a nice tip.”
