I've been trying to talk myself out of this but...

...What the hell. Me? Bandwagon? On it. Gimme a concept and I'll give you a drabble.

This should be interesting.

The origin of love

The hardest thing about long-term relationships, Kurenai soon found after she realized she was in one, was learning to share the bed.

It was all a puzzle of angles, figuring out how to match their bodies together without an elbow jab to the ribs or a chin digging into a shoulder. It was easy enough in the earlier hours of the night, when they moved together and all the awkwardness and all of the heat was just part of the blur. She never thought about how it might be later while she was in his lap, or on her back, or leaned over him with the flush rising in her cheeks, his hand curved along her jaw while she bit his thumb; but in the after hours, when her heart started beating in her chest again and awareness crept back to her, it all felt strange. The heat was unbearable, her neck was cramped from keeping her head tucked under his, the sheets smelled little like sweat and a great deal like cigarettes, and the shower she’d taken earlier that evening was completely useless.

That was how Kurenai learned that lovers, because that was what they were and she could admit it, didn’t lie together like two lost halves reunited. They lay like two whole people, one of whom took up almost the entire mattress without even trying. It was small lesson in adaptation and a large one in affection that that really made it work in the end and, while Kurenai could never say it came naturally, it did come. She rested her head against his chest (the hair prickled), closed her eyes, and soon drifted off to sleep.

WAFF <3!
