Sep. 23rd, 2003 01:03 pmThere was rain the desert last night; it never came often, but when it did it made its presence known. The night skies were muddy with the clouds the color of dried blood, and the morning was grey. The boy had sat through both, shivering but curious by the window. His fingers tips clicked against the glass—and he frowned, but it would move, if it truly displeased him. Glass was just sand in another form. He’d been told that rain wouldn’t be good to have in the apartment, though. It had been politely suggested that he keep it closed.
Yashamaru stood in the doorway and sighed. The sandstorms were almost preferable—the boy could have looked human, watching the rain.
His fingers didn’t leave a fog on the glass.
Yashamaru looked away, and went to finish breakfast. The folder was just where he’d left it on the table, grey like the rain and heavy as wet sand when he picked it up again. His hand shook. It didn’t belong here, he thought. He didn’t want it here. And he’d tried—perhaps that, at least, would count for something. Someone would have to know he’d tried.
He’d have it signed by noon.
Were Yashamaru and Gaara's mother twins? I've always assumed so, but I dunno if that's ever actually stated anywhere. Ah well. Off to class I go.

They look close enough to be twins, though, so I wouldn't see anything wrong with assuming that they are (and that Gaara's mother just happened to be the one to be delivered first).
