So having recently power rewatched Escaflowne in an extreme bout of I <3 the 90s anime nostalgia, I wrote this short little diddy. As several people have requested it and so now I will post it for the masses. Apparently what was missing from my teenaged years was massive amounts of Van and Hitomi wingfic. This needs to be fixed.
She combed her fingers over the thick curve of the highest arch, finding the loose feather dangling off the primary and plucking it loose. The wing jolted, only slightly, but three more feathers came out for the one she held in her fingers.
"Oh," she said. "They just come OUT."
"Mmm," said Van, turning his head into his arm. He'd been lying quietly the whole time.
"Do they always do that?"
"Yes," he mumbled, pressing his face further into his arm.
Hitomi put her hands into the down closer to his back and ruffled, slightly. A small blizzard went loose. His primarys extended in surprise, stretching the muscles close to his ribs and spine, muscles a normal man didn't have.
"Van," she said, a little sternly. "Are they SUPPOSED to do that?"
Van said nothing.
"Van," she said. "Are you molting?"
"N-no!" He nearly scrambled up on all fours in protest. His wing tip brushed the cabin ceiling and he flopped back down again. "That's seasonal! They just... if you..." he stumbled for words. "If you...mmmkeep them in too long. It gets. Erm. Messy."
Hitomi snapped one of the floating feathers out of the air and held it close to her eyes, tapping it matter-of-factly against her temple. "Guys are so untidy," she sighed. "Hold still."

(re Celena, this too. Millerna being a travelling MD is also a logical outcome for the series that I wish I could write for sob)
