adesso's fault. Van/Hitomi. 308 words. End of series but not much by way of spoilers. Unless "VAN AND HITOMI OTP" is a spoiler.
Oh wait. Spoilers: THERE ARE NO CANON MAKEOUTS.
I resolve to fix this, but this is mostly sort of just dumb.
It was in the skies over Zaibach that she first kissed him. It was a surprise to both of them. She had her head against his neck. She lifted her face to say something. The harsh cold of the wind startled her and her mouth bumped the corner of his mouth.
The ground below them was black and burnt. The skies above were murky grey. He had an arm cinched clumsily around her waist. The other held her hard across her shoulders, fingers clutching in hard enough it ached. Every stroke of his wings was like a jolt through both them. He wasn't used to carrying someone like that. He didn't dare shift her around. Still, his face was so warm and there and such a relief that for a moment she could hear nothing but choirs in her ears. It was just that perfect. She couldn't remember what she'd wanted to say so she kissed him. She kissed him hard and awkwardly and at the wrong angle. He tasted like blood and soot and maybe metal, but she did it anyway, scrabbling for the torn fabric of his shirt to keep from falling out of his arms. She kissed him until her neck ached and it got hard to breathe. That's when she pulled back and remembered to blush, because while now she could say she'd kissed a guy, she'd never kissed a guy like that.
It was clear on his face he hadn't either. "Hitomi," he started, and stumbled. His voice was rough from shouting, his eyes were red. He looked battered and drawn, but full of wonder all the same.
"Van," she'd said. Her eyes had gotten got very large. She dug her fingers into the back of his neck. "Van, flap."
She felt a lot less nervous about it once he remembered to do that.
but, hey, at least no one wound up like this.
