moonsheen: (the world is a mysterious place indeed)

Small fic. Not much to say about this one. Except that it's Kingdom Hearts, and it just sort of happened. Because, as much as I hated navigating this particular stage, these two were just so hopelessly cute I had to. That and it was my first Disney movie, and as the saying goes, you never forget your first.

Three would-be travelers met on the docks at high tide to discuss their would-be travel plans.

The first one asked: “What if we get lost?”

The second one answered, “We can’t get lost!” but since the first didn’t look convinced, after moment added, “And if we do, well…. We’ll ask for directions!”

The third was /still/ not convinced, and said so: “From who?”

The second only laughed, and shrugged.

“Maybe a mermaid.”

“…never seen a mermaid,” the first mumbled.

“Sure they’re even out there?” said the third.

“I’m sure,” the second replied, trailed a toe through the water, and splashed them unrepentantly. They spent the rest of the afternoon on the beach, belly or back up in the waves-- that was the end of their planning for the day. There was no more talk about mermaids.

Drifting by the rock-bed where the ship had been lodged, Sora talked with Ariel before he had to go. He never could get the hang of fins; he tried to float upright to face her, but with a too powerful beat of his tail nearly shot right over her head. She laughed, caught him by the dorsal fin, and pulled him back.

“You really don’t have them in your world, do you?”

“No,” Sora admitted sheepishly. He still felt a little bad about not mentioning that first thing. “I have feet.” Not /too/ bad though, he decided, when she looked so happy.

“Feet!” Ariel breathed (or not, Sora hadn’t quite figured how /that/ worked yet either—and wasn’t about to face one of Donald’s exasperated looks). She leaned up--her tail was draped lazily over the stone she’d been lounging along, scales bright even at the bottom of this big, endless ocean, the ends of her fins swaying with a soft current. His didn’t do that, and he didn’t have scales either, the skin below his waist smooth to match the back of the dolphin he’d held onto or maybe one of Riku’s shirts. Then again, he wasn’t really like her. She could swim, and she did, in a perfect circle around him. He didn’t even try to embarrass himself by turning to follow her; she stopped above, peering at him from upside down.

“Sora,” Ariel murmured. Her hair floated into his face and suddenly he could remember everything Kairi had never told him about mermaids but /must/ have known. “…What’s it like? Visiting other worlds?"

It's weird when you lose your legs, he wanted to say, but that wasn’t a good answer. He shrugged, met her eyes, and smiled.

“It’s great,” he said and, along with whatever else, that was the truth.

Ahem: AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! That was ADORABLE! I loved it! (Even if I hated Atlantica ahem see icon, which is aimed at Atlantica and Ursula, not you). ...I loved the little mermaid theme in the game, but hated the actual navigating about Atlantica. *wg*

Your fic is fantastic. I love the way you're portraying Sora. :)

...that icon is a thing of beauty.

Atlantica, mixed as my feelings are for it, still just sealed my complete and utter love for the ball of TOOTH ACHING CUTENESS that is Sora. One little bit especially--

Ariel: ...I want to see other worlds, is that strange?
Sora: No, not at all.

--Had me smitten. Accordingly, I most lovingly called him dolphinbutt for the rest of the stage.

Made by [livejournal.com profile] vagabond_sal at whom I was ranting as I recently replayed KH. *G*

[nods] I love Sora in it, and I love Ariel in it. Hell, I love how they portrayed ALL the Little Mermaid characters. But navigating Atlantica was a little like attempting to move between circles of Hell, and fighting Ursula likewise.

...Triton was especially true to form, I thought.

I liked the swimming. Up until the first time heartless popped up, that is. Then I realized oh HELL I have to actually know how to turn around! ...the fact that you're mocked for this in-game doesn't help. (Thanks Triton. -_-)

...as for Ariel, she saved my cute little cetacean (I know I probably didn't spell that right) bum too many times to count. And, um. She'skindofhot. But you didn't hear that from me.
