More Captain/Vice-Captain drabbles, for the heckuvit.

7th

The rookies had been set to work fixing a room in Complex-B. Iba learned this when he made a wrong turn heading to the offices and ended up swamped in the smell of wet paper and startled barks.

“Vice-Captain!” They weren’t yet used to the title either.

Later he asked Komamura himself.

“…books. From my studies,” answered the large man from his desk, shoulders raised like mountains. “I was to be a scholar before I became a shinigami. Some fool left a latch open. The rain nearly ruined them all.”

An officer from the third squadron was at the door.

It was morning. Momo answered it without thinking, fumbling into her clothes along the way. “…mm. yes?” she asked, not expecting the confused silence that followed.

The man dropped his head immediately. “I—ah—“ he was having a horrible coughing fit. “—the Captain--” he broke off again, uncomfortable.

It was all very good and surreal until Momo felt the hand on her shoulder from behind. “Yes?” said Captain Aizen. He squeezed gently and she jumped. Oh, she thought. Oh. For a moment, she’d forgotten whose quarters it actually was.

“You are granted authorization on this project,” she said, flatly.

The young man’s eyes brightened. “Thank you, Vice-Captain. The results will be brilliant. I promise you.”

“Please be discreet,” she said, softly. He was smiling as she handed him the folder. It faltered only slightly as her hand brushed his.

“Thank you,” he said again, less certain.

“Who authorized this?” rasped the Captain later, when he ripped the papers from the boy’s convulsing hand.

“I did,” she said, sadly.

“It’s brilliant,” he murmured. “You idiot.” The crack of his hand sent her into the wall.

Oh God, poor Nemu. Brilliant. And I bet Komamura's desk had to be custom-made.

I hope Nemu eventually gets to live happily ever after in a land made of sunshine and green grass? ... Yeah sure.

Komamura is love.

...well sometimes when I write her she gets to do a doctor. And keep her daddy's head in a vat! That's plenty happy!

I read one of those, and while it was profoundly satisfying to see Nemu doing things (and doctors) on her own, it was still not a happy story in terms of sunshine and grass. Then again, I bet it's hard to write Nemu happy.

HEADS IN VATS ARE SO AWESOME.

Sunshine + heads in vats = TRUE HAPPINESS.
