D.Gray-Man, Allen and Rinali. Hypothetically set after the current arc, although there's not really any spoilers for anything. Mostly I just really, really like these two.
She says, “It always has to be on your own.”
He says, “…what?”
“Always like this. I hate you.”
He can only say her name.
Quickly, she presses a wrist to the corner of her eye. “I mean I hate that about you. I mean, I mean…now you’re going to tell me--”
“It’s all right.”
“--that and you’re going to smile and I’m going to have to believe you.” She looks up, lips twisted, deeply hurt. “For just a second I’m going to look at you and I’m going to believe you.”
He does smile. “I’m sorry?”
She slumps at his bedside, pressing her face into the sheets. “Allen …”
He touches her hair. Strands catch on the gauze. His hand’s broken. “I’m sorry.”
“Allen, stop that.”
And then her face is pressed against the thick fabric of his nightshirt. “…I really don’t like to…”
She clenches her fingers in the cloth between his shoulder blades. “Just tell me again.”
He pauses, then, “…it’s all right. If you—you’re shaking—if you hate me....”
“I don’t, I just…”
He whispers, close to her forehead, “It’s all right, Rinali.”
“…oh, okay," she says. She sighs. They stay like that for the rest of the morning.
