Bleach: after a mission
For
memlu. Not-quite-porn. Kaien and the Lady Shiba. ...with additional Wrongness With Swords. (it's fun to think of the zanpakutou in Bleach as being like the Daemons in His Dark Materials, see.) Happy happy birthday to you. ♥
“Of course,” she said, leaning over his abdomen to take his sword from him. It had been lying propped between his elbow and his ribcage, the theft is achieved with little protest. She ducked under his arm's attempt to wrap around her and sat back cross-legged and tidy. She laid the weapon in her lap. “I imagine Nejibana had something to say about it.”
“She did,” Kaien answered, frowning at the empty space where he had not managed to catch his wife in her escape. “And told her not to feel too left out. Look, it just turned out to be explosives this time. Then… What, is she still sore about it? Next time. Next time!”
The woman ran soothing fingers up the surface of the swords sheath, and raised both eyebrows at her husband. “Shiba Kaien, your way with the women in your life astounds.”
“Next time,” he repeated, scowling. He brought himself up on an elbow. “Does she want to go now? Nejibana, you want to go now? We can, if it’s that big a deal. I’ll order us to go. Should we do that? I can do that. I got the Captain’s authority, half of the time. I’m my own Vice-Captain and all!”
“No. Not now,” said his wife, leaning over again—this time to put her hand over his thigh and settle it back onto the futon. “You would actually do that.”
“…well yeah.” He frowned at her sigh: “Princess?”
“…you would actually do that.” She shook her head. She pressed her thumb his sword’s guard, feeling its bumpy pattern. “I wouldn’t stop either of you, of course. I hardly have the authority anymore. It’s been a very long time since I’ve outranked you…not that would have made a terrible difference if your heart was set on it. It would just give me the authority to dock you when you returned. But aside from that I think there would be a disadvantage, to going now…”
Kaien grinned at her. “Don’t say.”
“Mm. I do.” The lady popped an inch of metal out of its sheath. “She is tired.” She ran her thumb along the sword’s exposed surface. The reaction in her husband was immediate, he swallowed thickly and his eyelids dropped.
The lady looked up, tracing a circle. “I am not.”
“Ya know, Princess,” Kaien wheezed, laid out as his wife set his sword down gently next to them and climbed atop him, her hands deftly sliding into the front of his nightclothes, over his collar, spreading it. “I could call that cheatin’ there.”
“You could,” his wife agreed, kissing the underside of his jaw, the corner of his mouth. Her hair fell over his face; he caught strands between his lips. “But I rather call it way of solving all of our complaints…”
“Playing dirty,” he rasped.
“Efficient,” she corrected, gathering her hair out of the way. She let both of his arms fold over her, in the end.

(no really though I wonder if shinigami don't have the same sort of social codes with their swords as people and their daemons have in the books. I was wondering that especially since the anime actually: when they cart Momo off after her fight with Izuru, they have her by the neck and wrists....but no one bothers to take her sword out of her hands)

...I'll have to say they don't because...whuuuut? I got the impression they represent masculinity/femininity in a person, the ying yang balance. I don't think it had sexuality in it at ALL o.O Maybe a sensual appeal, but that has nothing to do with genitalia whut?

And all the theories that a person whose Daemon has the same gender as they do it gay.
..that and it's taboo to touch another person's privates. :o

The Daemons comparison is--I wouldn't have thought of that (primarily because it's been years and years since I read HDM), but it's fascinating. And yet another reason why I want my USB drive working again so I can reread Bleach in its entirety.

Well, sword suggestiveness, anyway. I've had the zanpakutou-as-shinigami-daemons thought myself, and toyed with ways to write it, but DUDE YOU WIN. This is so perfect. Especially Kaien's reaction to his wife petting his sword, mrowr.
There definitely needs to be discussion of this theory. What do the shinigami know about what the shape of their swords means about their personalities? Ohh, I want to write analyses now; Renji's two-headed sword, how he's pulled in two different directions practically every time we see him, Ichigo's shadowy pimp guide who, I'd bet money, looks far more human than most zanpakutou and what that might mean...
I also now kind of want crossover fic. Soul Society as one of the suburbs of the dead? Or maybe the adventures of one of the older knife-bearers in SS... it could totally make sense. Maybe.

I've also always wondered if swordform suggests something about what animal!form the weilder might have taken, had they become a hollow....
