Hisana would bring her husband his sword on those days that he departed before she did. Once, in the night, she touched it out of curiousity. He was awake instantly, watching her, but he said nothing, so she laid her palm out flat along the whole blade. And he closed his eyes, and he breathed, and he let her.




she looks out over the field, her eyes darker than the lake on ice.

'hey there, princess," he breathes, his voice rough with the hour's efforts.

"hello, kaien," she breathes, a thick murmur.

and lays his spear over her glaive.





cloth rustling, massive shoulders hunching. cricket in the grass. his companion, bowing his head.

'ah but sometimes i do not think you're missing much. for one with sight, i find myself often...'

breath, and the soft hiss of a book being closed.

'lost?'

'...yes.'

and, the ridge of the guard.

'here.'

'here.'

and, the warmth of the tengen's hilt.
