Re: Persona 3

... okay. Actually, I think I've figured out exactly what it is about this game that hella hooks people.

It's like getting to play in those 90s action shoujo series. The kind with the waifish violet-eyed protagonist! The confusing highschool setting! The massive amounts of blood and bizarre religious symbology! SHAMGOTH WARDROBES. Irregular chapter releases leading to awful pacing and eventual hiatus hell! MESSED UP AND ANATOMICALLY IMPOSSIBLE OFFICIAL ARTWORK.

And some plot sometimes, I guess.

holy crap guys its like i'm 16 and reading x again EXCEPT THIS TIME I GET TO CHOOSE WHO I HAVE SUBTEXT WITH??

My friends and I joked that it's the perfect game for the people who don't have much of a social life (aka us |Db)

Nah, I've only just started, with a peppering of spoilers (read: youtubed random scenes for Liam O'Brien's Akihiko--er.) And am immediately going cross-eyed at the very very, ah, bizarre choices in storytelling. And everyone's amazing ability to NOT answer my questions but pretend that they have. And the very vague dialogue describing what the shit is going on-- ... god it really is the 90s all over again.

I really love Shinji. And Akihiko. And Shinji and Akihiko.

...Uuuuh something happens in the middle of the game that made me laugh just because it was such that classic 90s anime blasphemy. Hint: involves a particular religious symbol.

CORRECT, YOUNGLING. Except more with the giant green penis monsters, and less with the massive amounts of molting.

IS THERE MIRROR IMAGE MOLESTATION? GOD PLEASE TELL ME THERE IS MIRROR IMAGE MOLESTATION. I also suspect any character over the age of 25 is probably going to do bad. bad things to me

h-h-holy crap i thought you were joking

That. That is some heavy duty penis monster action going on thar-- also, please tell me that's a persona. It would make my life if that thing existed as a facet of some schizophrenic kids mind.

It is, oh god, it totally super is-- except, only in Persona 3: FES. Special treat for the fans, I suppose. It's one of the staple demons in megaten games; you can fight one in Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, but it's all mushy and incomplete. :(

... so let me get this straight

the obligatory returning monster of the megaten games is a GIANT PENIS IN A CHARIOT???

Amongst the many, including the angel in bondage gear. Think: ______ is to Megaten as, uh, adamantoise and coeurl are to Final Fantasy. Then again, I don't think any Final Fantasy can ever boast this. (Music not accurate representation.) A++

Oh! That's Mara. In Fes, it's part of the Tower arcanum. Technically, a male demon from Sri Lanka, but it always makes me think of Mara from Oh My Goddess!

It is a giant penis monster in a cart, and I think of it as being female. Make of that what you will.

I'm not even sure I can count it as GOOD yet. I mean... uh, do any of us still think of stuff like Angel Sanctuary and DNAngel as the best thing ever? On the other hand, HELLO NOSTALGIA.

every so often I get the urge to read or write DNAngel again and then I remember what happened the last time I had a bright idea like that. It involved tears.

I definitely don't think the game qualifies as good since it's got this big tendency to be boring, and that's a killer for a game right there.

Also, heck with you, I still love DNAngel! The manga, at least. The anime was admittedly kind of lousy, but the manga had great art and was consistently hilarious. Often it was even intentionally hilarious!

EXACTLY plus you get to be totally retarded with a wide variety of hilarious people. Sort of on that subject, one of the things I always found striking about the game's whole setup is that all your social interaction in it is incredibly cynical and self-serving, since at the end of the day you're doing it all just to buff your Personas up. I think it would've been interesting if they'd explored that a little more.

. . . Or maybe they do, Hell, I haven't gotten very far yet.

See, yeah. I like that angle as well. I'm hoping it gets exploited at least a LITTLE, and if not, well. I can pretend. It sort of gives an otherwise bland as toast protagonist a slightly more interesting spin. Even if one of the problems I'm having right now is the fact I'm just not very good at dealing with this brand of silent protagonist. I like it when they say things on their own!

... but on the other hand, I played the Princess Maker games, so you know. Maybe it'll work out.

See, I can dig a silent protagonist if the game gives me interesting/funny things to make them say, which I think P3 does a pretty good job with all in all--but yeah, I think the game will sort of lose something if it doesn't at least acknowledge that what your guy is doing is sorta assholish when you think about it.

P3 is totally a glorified dating sim, but only just.
Atlust is having their shits and giggles big time with this one.
A lot of girls liked P3, hmmm I wonder why.

Penis in a chariot...someone tell me why I havent encountered that wonder in previous Megaten games? Where was it?
