"You will love him as a woman and he will never forsake you"

...This is me not thinking of Gilgamesh/Enkidu slash. This is me really not thinking of Gilgamesh/Enkidu slash. This is me failing miserably.

Oddly enough, my favorite bit in this has to be Ishtar and Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh, there are tactful ways to dump a goddess, listing every one of her atrocities against former lovers is not one of them. Ishtar's resulting hissy fit is rather fun, though

...And then Enkidu dies. Damnit, I liked him. Much more interesting than our Brave Hero. I like the whole 'tamed animal' origins. The Harlot, incidently, is my favorite female in the text.

I remember reading that book! We were given an assignment to make a boardgame with it. Our's totally rocked. I still have it, even.

But yeah, really strong attempt to ignore the Gilgamesh/Enkidu vibes coming out of that thing.

...And it just gets harder and harder as it goes on. Oh, Enkidu! What shall I do without you? Go on a broken quest for immortality, of course!

hahaha, I went over the Gilgamesh epic in three classes these past few weeks, and I thought the exact same thing. It didn't help that my theology professor kept saying 'Don't you see? They fell in love.'

ps. our boardgame was totally better than [livejournal.com profile] fancylala's boardgame! Well. I haven't actually seen her boardgame, but as ours involved a small plastic Sacred Goat, clearly it was favoured by the gods.

The preface to our version went on and on about how Enkidu and Gilgamesh were made for eachother. All I could think was oh, how romantic! And snicker over the idea of the gods sending their beloved child his very own boytoy to calm him down.

I read the children's book. There were slash vibes in the *children's book*. I think that makes a statement.

...Well, with all that manly handholding they do. It sets a very good example.
