What it sounded like was the high-pitched ring of a blank thought. There weren't really words being spoken, there wasn't really a conversation happening. There was nothing there. A sharp pain went through his eye, and his scar-- it looked like... it looked like...

Allen snapped his eyes shut.
"E...excuse me. Please pardon me... " he stammered, feeling suddenly as though he'd mistakeningly seen someone nude. Which didn't make sense. The...whatever was wearing a very familiar looking cloak. "My apologies. Y...you're with the Order, I assume."
Correct! congratulated the man who wasn't there. Allen turned his head and watched him through a half opened eye, and it felt a little easier to fix on him like that. It hurt though. Every word he that wasn't spoken, felt... wrong. And...not quite! I am from an Order.
The man who wasn't by walked past. Allen thought he saw this: a sharp profile, under the hood. A glimpse of a pale cheek. The familiar lines of a pierrot: make-up Allen had worn a thousand times, in his life as a clown...
A white, fanged grin.
Just not yours.
Then he was gone, just like that. It shouldn't have been so surprising. He'd never been there at all.

She kisses him before he can comment on it, because if she's entirely honest she's wanted to for a long time and he's alive and she's so very tired of things that escape her.
It surprises him; Rinali feels him tense and he says something muffled against her -- she thinks she hears her brother's name and that's no good, because she loves her brother but she doesn't think she could give Allen to him.
She kisses him again, harder, and he finally puts his hands on her shoulders, and then on her back, and he holds onto her like he expects her to vanish and that's just fine. That's just fine.
"Rinali," he says, or rather he squeaks, wide-eyed and staring at her like he expects stars to bloom across her skin. "Whu--"
She takes one of his hands and puts it against her throat, where the buttons of her coat are, and meets his eyes evenly.
"I missed you," she says, and squeezes his fingers. "Allen."
For a moment she's sure he's going to argue, because he's Allen Walker and about the only thing he accepts for free is food. And her brother will be upset with them both, and Allen isn't the sort of person who'd bother anyone--
And then he undoes the first button, and the fingers of his Innocence are peculiar on her skin, more like leather than flesh, and even after long minutes they don't warm to skin temperature.
"Rinali?"
She doesn't sob (but she wants to, she thinks, she'd really like to--) and throws her arms around his shoulders and drags him down.
